Determining your eligibility to become a member of
The Society of Mayflower Descendants
If you have documentation that leads you to believe you may be descended from a passenger
on the Mayflower voyage of 1620 that terminated on the shores of New England at Plymouth
you may be eligible to join the Society.
Your preliminary application must give the full name of each ancestor along with
documentation for each person.
- The highest and best documentation is the vital records of such ancestors. These are the
birth, marriage, and death certificates of each person. Other documentation may be
acceptable such as published genealogies and other official records. Sources for this type
of information is too voluminous to be listed here. Most libraries, various genealogical
associations, including those on the Internet may be able to provide assistance. The State
Historian of your State Society of Mayflower Descendants may be able to provide limited
assistance also.
- If you have a blood relative who is a member of the Society they may be able to provide
you with a copy of their lineage paper which will greatly reduce the magnitude of your
task. CAUTION: If the relatives lineage was approved prior to 1984 you may be
required to submit additional, or up-graded documentation.
- Because each State Society is an autonomous organization that Society will review the
lineage papers submitted by you in accordance with the instructions promulgated by that
particular State Society. If approved the application will then be submitted to the
General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The Historian General will review, make
corrections if applicable, and finally approve or disapprove the application. The
application will then be returned to the State Historian for appropriate action.

Application and follow the instructions.
